SCREENINGS: APRIL, JUNE 2007 MINNEAPOLIS & SAGINAW

There will be a FREE screening of "Venus Of Mars" on Monday, April 23rd at 8:00 p.m. at Pi nightclub in Minneapolis (www.myspace.com/mplspi) as part of their Dinner & a Movie series.  (Bottles of wine half off!)  There will be a Q&A session with Director Emily Goldberg and Venus following the screening, and Venus will do a cameo solo performance to cap off the evening.

Also FREE, on Sunday, June 17th at 8:00 p.m. you can see the film outside at Patrick's Cabaret in Minneapolis at dusk, as part of the Movies in the Park-ing Lot series, curated by Mark Wojahn.  Visit www.patrickscabaret.org for more information.

The film will screen twice in Saginaw, MI on the weekend of June 23rd, as part of the Riverside Saginaw Film Festival (www.riversidesaginawfilmfestival.org).  Director Emily Goldberg and film subjects Venus and Lynette will be in attendance for Q&A sessions following the screenings.  Venus will perform and Lynette will read poetry as well.  The first screening is on Saturday, June 23rd at 9:15 p.m. at the Pit & Balcony Theatre; there will be a Q&A and performances directly following the screening.  The film screens again on Sunday, June 24th at 1:00 p.m. at 301 Cass St. in Old Town Saginaw, with a Q&A afterward.

MOMA SCREENING: SEPTEMBER 8 & 10, 2006

It is an honor to have VENUS OF MARS screen as part of the Museum of Modern Art's "Another Wave:  Global Queer Cinema" program.  The film screens at New York MOMA's Titus theater (11 West 53 Street, between 5th & 6th Avenues) on Friday, September 8th at 6:00 p.m., and again on Sunday, September 10th at 3:30 p.m.  Director Emily Goldberg will be present for a Q&A at the Friday night screening.  Admission is free on Friday, $10 for non-MOMA members on Sunday.

PHOENIX: SCREENING, ART, PERFORMANCE MARCH 4TH

"Venus Of Mars" screens in Phoenix at Soul Invictus Gallery & Cabaret on Saturday, March 4th.  Venus' artwork will be on exhibit, and Venus and Lynette will be present for a "meet and greet" at 6:00 p.m., and performance at 7:00 p.m. (solo performance by Venus and spoken word by Lynette).  The film screens at 8:00 p.m. and there will be a Q&A with Venus and Lynette following the screening.  Admission is $5.

Venus also performs a free show at Soul Invictus on Friday, March 3rd with The Insignificant Others.

MARCH 2006: SPAIN SCREENING & PERFORMANCE

"Venus of Mars" will screen at Play-Doc, the International Documentary Festival of Tui, Spain on Saturday, March 25th. 

Director Emily Goldberg and film subjects Venus DeMars and Lynette Reini-Grandell will be present for a Q&A following the screening.

FEBRUARY 2006: VENUS OF MARS FEATURED ON PBS

In February, "In the Life", the PBS TV Newsmagazine of Record on Gay and Lesbian America, is running some of their favorite love stories in an episode entitled "The Right to Love".  It's an honor to have their story about "Venus Of Mars" included in this episode.  If you didn't catch the piece when they ran it the first time, now's your chance.

AWARDS!

"Venus Of Mars" recently won two awards:

The audience 'Best Documentary" award at ImageOut, the Rochester Lesbian & Gay Film & Video Festival (www.imageout.org), and the Feature Documentary Grand Prize at the Milwaukee International Film Festival's Midwest Filmmaker Competition (www.milwaukeefilmfest.org).

Last year, the film won the audience 'Best Film' award at the Indianapolis LGBT Film Festival.

Receiving these awards is a great honor; a big thanks to all who voted for the film!

MORE OCTOBER SCREENINGS: ROCHESTER, NY; MILWAUKEE; MINNEAPOLIS

"Venus Of Mars" screens in Rochester, New York on Monday, October 10th at 7:00 p.m. as part of ImageOut, the Rochester Lesbian and Gay Film and Video Festival (October 7 -16, 2005).  For more information, visit www.imageout.org

 

The Milwaukee International Film Festival will screen "Venus Of Mars", and feature live performances by All The Pretty Horses as well as Venus solo.  All The Pretty Horses kick off the festival's first weekend at the FREE Midnight Delerium preview party Saturday, October 15th at 9:00 p.m. at the Todd Wehr Conference Center at the Milwaukee School of Engineering. 

The Milwaukee Venus-fest continues on Saturday, October 29th.  At 2:00 p.m., Venus will perform a solo set at Atomic Records, 1813 E. Locust Street, followed by a screening of the film at 4:30 p.m. at the Oriental Theater 1 as part of the Midwest Filmmaker Competition.  Director Emily Goldberg and film subjects Venus and Lynette will be on hand for a Q&A session following the screening. VENUS TO PERFORM IN AMSTERDAM AT NETHERLANDS TRANSGENDER FILM FESTIVAL, MAY 2005

On Thursday, May 19th, Venus will perform a special solo show at the opening party for the 2005 Netherlands Transgender Film Festival in Amsterdam.  The show will take place at Akhnaton. (www.akhnaton.nl)

"VENUS OF MARS" ON TV IN MARCH

IN THE LIFE, The TV Newsmagazine of Record on Gay and Lesbian America Untangles America’s concept of gender identity.

A segment about "Venus Of Mars" airs on public television's IN THE LIFE this month. This broadcast includes an on-air mention of a little FCC controversy to keep things interesting.  (Tune in. I don't want to spoil it for you.)

The program is hosted by Ru Paul, and the 10-minute piece about "Venus Of Mars" features an interview with Director Emily Goldberg.  Minneapolis is very well represented in this show; stay tuned for a profile of the fabulous Miss Richfield!

SCREENING HISTORY

“Venus Of Mars” had its world premiere at the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) in November 2003. It has since been selected for 2004 screenings at the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, Documenta Madrid, Romania’s Brasov Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, the New Zealand Out Takes Festival, NYC’s New Festival, San Francisco’s International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, and the AFI/Discovery Silverdocs Festival.

The six-and-a-half minute trailer for the project screened at the 2001 Independent Feature Project (IFP) Market in New York, the 2002 Media That Matters Film Festival, the 2002 Women In The Director’s Chair Festival (Chicago), and Walker Art Center’s 2002 Women With Vision Film Festival.
